Hello readers! It’s been a while. I’ve had quite a bit of good stuff going on recently and so I’ve not been posting as much, or doing as much random word generator writing. I wanted to update on some of what’s going on and on the anticipated future of the Urban Habitat web spot!
And, just as an overall announcement:
Urban Habitat will be getting another re-design!
I’m not happy with the current way that blog posts lay out, or with the way the site appears on mobile. I’m working on upgrading my CSS knowledge so that I can be more hands-on with the design and start from a blanker template, moving toward a very unique site experience. We’ll see! It’s been fun so far. Anyway, more updates:
Dribbble UI Design Challenge!
I’m working on learning UI and UX design and research, as I’ve mentioned previously, and started the 100-day DailyUI challenge last week. Check out my work on dribbble if you’re interested! Keep in mind, it’s very beginner, and I am totally looking for feedback!
Freelance Work is Ramping Up
Being a freelance creative content designer & podcast/video editor is getting busy, busy busy! And, I’m enjoying it greatly. I’ve now added a lot more creative content to my responsibilities, including the social media marketing for podcast episodes and for WINii‘s informative content.
If you’re a woman working in tech, or interested in working in tech, who wants to take charge of their finances, learn how here with WINii! Shameless plug.
As an example, I got the WINii instagram page from 3 new accounts reached in a day, to 198 reached in a day, with just a few posts!
And if you’re interested in my editing work, you can check out WINii’s podcast, Moneybites, or their Youtube page.

Triathalon Training!
My partner & I are doing a triathalon this fall as a two-person team! I’m excited for my first traithalon, for sure – and nervous, too, although it’s only a sprint triathalon and it’s kayaking instead of swimming, which I’m much more comfortable with. Training time starts NOW!
[Possibly] Back to School!
When I started looking at schools for undergrad I was interested in a few things. The two I remember most, as I got closer to applying and choosing a school, were neuroscience and architecture. My choice of school esentially made the decision for me; University of Pittsburgh did not have a full architecture program. And so I chose neuroscience, which became mathematical biology and neuroscience.
Now I’m seriously considering – and looking into – going back for my Masters of Architecture, or M.Arch. Which may seem out of left field and weird and discontinous, and it is in a way (isn’t everything?) but a passion of mine is ecologically-fit architecture, as well as “smart city” building that takes local ecology into account, so the subjects do meld together well.
I know this is something I would like to do with endless time and endless money, but the reality is I don’t have endless time or endless money. The time I can manage, but school is expensive, as you probably know. I mean, my preferred program at the moment will end up running me a good six figures, which even while going to school part time and working and accepting a small gift and hopefully some scholarships, will likely leave me in debt. And I have no desire to be in debt to the government, or to any financial institution, or to Mrs. and Mr. Rich who maybe offer some sort of loan. I don’t know. We’ll see!
[Possibly] Soon a Twice-Published Author!
Okay, “twice published” is maybe a little clickbat, since the first time I self-published. However, that’s still something to be just as proud of (I tell myself this, because I know it’s true but I have trouble being proud of myself ever).
Anyway, I potentially have a publishing contract for a new venture! Updates to come – have to keep you waiting until things are finalized! But if you like plants, and animals, and bugs, and DIY, and zine art, you’ll like this.
Keep an eye out!
